Sheffield is well known as a Steel city. City's Industrial success and fall tells it's story. How Sheffield has changed throughout the years and what has Sheffield become now.



Brief History:

Sheffield has been well know for it's blade production since 14th of century, Industrial improvements such as Crucible Steel process led Sheffield to rapid industrial growth in 1740. Sheffield remained mayor industrial city until the early 1970s. Economic downfall following oil crisis and EEA restructuring of steel manufacturing led to the closure of many steelworks. Urban and economic regeneration started in late 1980s to diversify city's economy. Sheffield is now home to many students, thanks to two universities of whom one is TOP 100 in the world. City is also centre for banking and insurance functions. In past years Sheffield has changed from mayor industrial city, to more greener, diverse and friendlier city. Sheffield has invested big resources to make it more attractive to students and tourists.

Sheffield's council and community have done a great job on improving how city looks and represents itself now. Dark ages of Sheffield are long gone. Sheffield's city centre is getting rebuilt and restored in a very fast pace. Unique restaurants and bars being opened every month, in some of them you can enjoy live music by local bands... Some of them are really good. Sheffield's parks has lately blossomed attracting crowds of Uni students, families and couples. From Botanical Gardens to Peace Gardens & from Weston Park to Winter Gardens both of last two are also known for having a museum each worth visiting. Sheffield also benefits from Peak District National Park being just next door. Driving there from Sheffield in a car is an amazing experience itself. hills, cliffs... Sheeps on the fields, beautiful views sets your mind at peace.... Now back to the city and it's restaurants and bars. Sheffield have some hot spot's in this category as well. If you're looking for nice meal or night out, Sheffield is the place. Division street, Leopold square and Ecclesall road are all offering an amazing experience.
